やなぎみわ Miwa Yanagi

神戸市生まれ。1990年代半ばより「エレーベーターガール」「マイグランドマザーズ」「フェアリーテイル」など、女性をテーマにした写真シリーズを制作。
2009年第53回ベネチア・ビエンナーレ日本館代表。
2011年から本格的に演劇活動を始め『ゼロ・アワー 東京ローズ最後のテープ』アメリカ・カナダツアー、また2016年より台湾製の移動舞台車を使った野外劇を全国で巡演している。2019年、新作の写真作品を中心に美術館個展「神話機械」が巡回。
2021年、台湾オペラ「アフロディーテ〜阿婆蘭〜」を作演出、台灣文化局主催で高雄市の野外劇場にて公演した。2025年より「大姥百合」「黄泉平坂 排斥と遊戯」など新たに作劇。造形作品とパフォーマンスが融合した舞台を創作している。
Born in Kobe City. Since the mid-1990s Yanagi has been producing female-themed photographic series including Elevator Girl, My Grandmothers and Fairy Tail.
In 2009, she represented the Japan Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
From 2011 she started directing on stage, with Zero Hour Tokyo Rose Last Tape touring US/Canada (2015), and touring an outdoor play around the country with a Taiwanese mobile stage trailer since 2016. In 2019 she toured with her solo museum exhibition Myth Machines presenting new photographic works.
In 2021, she wrote and directed the Taiwanese opera Aphrodite, which was staged at an outdoor theater in Kaohsiung sponsored by Taiwan’s Department of Cultural Affairs. Shas been writing new plays such as “Giant witch lily” and “Yomi (underworld)-The Myth of the Peach-Throwing” as of 2025. Yanagi creates stage productions that merge visual art and performance.
