広瀬菜々&永谷一馬 Nana Hirose & Kazuma Nagatani

Since 2007, the duo has maintained a practice based between Germany and Japan. Both artists graduated from the University of the Arts Bremen in 2014, where they were awarded the title of Meisterschüler. Their work unfolds across a range of geographical and cultural contexts, wherein domestic spaces and elements of everyday life serve as recurring motifs through which they critically reassess the familiarity of lived environments and interrogate inherited systems of meaning and value. In recent years, their installations have increasingly incorporated questions posed by children. By bringing these often unanswerable questions into the exhibition space, they foreground the very act of questioning as a conceptual framework. Their practice invites viewers to reconsider how we see the world, and fundamentally, to reflect on the enduring question of what it means to be “ourselves”. They received 1st Prize of University Award at the University of Fine Arts Bremen (2012), Audience Award at the Voelklinger Art Award (2013), overseas research grant of Pola Art Foundation (2015) and Audience Award at Bergisch Art Award (2017). Their solo exhibitions include Leverkusen Art Association (2021), Ulm Art Foundation (2019), Japan Foundation Cologne (2018) and Danneil Museum (2017) etc. Group shows at What Museum (2024), Tokyo Arts and Space (2021), Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2018), Solingen Museum (2017), Weserburg Museum (2014), etc.
