Statement

モノがそこにある不思議を具現化した球体の作品や、自身と地面との関係に焦点を当てた体重計を使った作品など、多様なアプローチで、彫刻の経験そのものを問う。
主な作品に２つに分裂した彫刻的物体からびよーんと伸びるやっこさんを抱っこして体重計に乗る作品「ULTRAAWARAD2015　奇跡（やっこさん）」、筒の中を転がる球体を眺める「心の発現」など。

He questions the experiencing of sculptures through a variety of approaches, including his works using spheres which embody the wonder of objects being there, and works using weight scales focusing on the relationship between the self and the ground. His main works include the “ULTRAAWARD2015 Miracle (Yakko-san)” where he holds a paper craft Yakko that extends from a sculptural object split in two and steps on a scale, and “Expression of the Mind” in which he watches a sphere rolling inside a tube.

現在、大島は彫刻家であり、主にインフラの電気を扱う電気工でもある。最初の出会いは大島がグランプリを獲得した2015年のウルトラアワード。木製の彫刻が巨大な「奴凧」と結ばれ、観客は「奴凧」を持ち体重計に乗って鑑賞するインスタレーションは、独自の形状や空間の認識が、大変印象的であった。あらたな思考実験の展開を、期待している。

Oshima is currently a sculptor and an electrician that works mainly with electricity for infrastructures. I first encountered Oshima at the ULTRA AWARD in 2015 when he was awarded the Grand Prize. His installation where a wooden sculpture is connected to a huge paper-craft Yakko, and the viewer would watch while holding the Yakko and standing on a set of weight scales, left a large impression with his unique shapes and perception of space. I anticipate for a new thought experiment to unfold.
