Statement
ものごとの認識の不確かさ・あいまいさ、無意識のうちにもっている固定観念や差別的なまなざしを改めて体感する機会をつくるため、制作している。そのため既存のイメージを用いることが多く、日常にありふれたモチーフや美術史上の作品を引用している。
I create work in order to make opportunities to re-experience the uncertainty and ambiguity of our perception, as well as the stereotypes and discriminatory views we unconsciously hold. For this reason, I often use existing images, using motifs common to everyday life or referencing works from the history of art.

林は世界地図をダンボールにプリントし箱状に組み立てることにより世界というものがどうなっているかを把握しようと試みている。実際には遠く離れている場所や文化圏がダンボールで折り畳まれることにより距離が近づいたり重なり合ったりする。普通では把握できないことを視覚化し、単純なことに変換させている。世界中どこへでもダンボールで運ばれていくという現代性を持つ作品を作るシュールな感覚を持った作家である。

Hayashi prints world maps onto cardboard and folds them into boxes as an attempt to understand how the world is. As the cardboard boxes are folded, locations and cultures that are far apart in reality may become close, or overlap. She makes things that are usually incomprehensible visual, and converts them into simple things. She is an artist with surreal senses, creating artwork with the modernity of being carried off to anywhere in the world in a cardboard box.
