川村摩那 Mana Kawamura

1995年兵庫県生まれ。2018年に早稲田大学文学部日本語日本文学コース卒業後、IT・通信企業に就職。2021年、京都芸術大学修士課程美術工芸領域油画専攻入学。文字や文学作品をモチーフにした作品を制作している。
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1995.
After graduating from the Waseda University Faculty of Letters Japanese Literature Course in 2018, pursued a job at an IT company.
In 2021, she entered the master’s program at Kyoto University of the Arts, majoring in oil painting. She creates works using letters and literature as motif.

Statement
国内外の近代文学作品から引用してきたテキストを、絵具が流れ落ちて文字の輪郭だけが残るという現象で表現した平面作品と、日本最古の文学書である『古事記』に登場する神々や動物、国造りのエピソードなどからインスパイアを受けて描いた油絵を並行して制作している。「文字」と「絵」が隣り合って生まれる関係性の中で、両作が横断しながら互いに意味を補強しあるいは反発し合うことに意識を向けている。
I create paintings by quoting texts from modern Japanese and foreign literature, painting so that only the outline of the drawn letters remains and all the other paint falls, and oil paintings inspired by the gods and animals that appear in the Kojiki, Japan’s oldest literary (history) book, as well as episodes of nation-building. I turn my attention to the fact that “letters” and “paintings” intersect, and reinforce or repel each other in their relationship of being side by side.

流れ出した文字や動物たちの世界は、国内外の近代文学から引用されたテキストや『古事記』に
登場する国造りのエピソードなどからインスパイアを受け作品化される。
これら二つの仮象は、独立した「世界＝場」でありながらも私たちの脳内において、
「見ること」と「読むこと」を関係づけながら往来させる。
川村作品は、過去・現在・未来に接続しながら、私たちの存在や、この謎に満ちた世界について
多面的に創造をめぐらすことができる。

The world of letters and animals that has leaked out, gains inspiration from texts quoted modern literature of the world, or episodes of nation-building from the Kojiki, and turns into artwork.
These two virtual images are both independent worlds (places), but inside our minds, make us go back and forth, forming a connection between looking and reading.
Kawamura’s work connects to the past, present and future, and allows us to think about our existences, or this world full of mysteries, from multiple perspectives.
