Statement

距離について考える。

目の前の風景の中に見慣れない形を見たり、近しい人を違う生き物のように感じることがある。
その時近いものは遠くなり、その位置を喪失する。

視界の中で浮遊するそれらは、常に押し引きしてつり合っている。

絵の上でも同じように、色や線が無数の関係をむすんでいる。
絵はつり合っている。しかし再び動く予感をはらんで振動している。

I think about distance.

Sometimes I see unfamiliar shapes in the landscape in front of me, or I feel as if someone close to me is a different creature.
Then, what is close becomes far, and they lose their position.

Floating in the field of vision, they constantly push and pull to balance each other.

Colors and lines form countless relationships on a canvas in the same way.
Paintings are in balance. But they vibrate, with a hint of moving again.

彼の作品で描かれているものは、何かのイメージでありながら、すべて絵画の質に変換される。時折具体的な像が現れそうになりつつも、具体的な質の中に解きほぐされてしまう。画面の中によく現れる線も像を結ぶことなく、漂い多重化される。何かによって遮られた視点からみる世界のあちらとこちらが、絵具のレイヤーによって融解され、観る者をそこに佇ませ浮遊させる。

The things depicted in his artwork, though are images of a sort, are all converted into a quality of the painting. Even though concrete images start to appear at times, they become unraveled inside concrete qualities. The lines that often appear in his paintings do not form an image either, they float and multiply. This side and that side of the world, seen from the perspective obstructed by something, fuse together by the layers of paint, and make the viewer stay there and drift.
