村山悟郎 Goro Murayama

1983年、東京生まれ。アーティスト。博士(美術)。自己組織的なプロセスやパターンを、絵画やドローイングをとおして表現している。2010年、shiseido art egg賞を受賞。2015年、東京芸術大学美術研究科博士後期課程美術専攻油画(壁画)研究領域修了。2015-17年、文化庁新進芸術家海外研修員としてウィーンにて滞在制作（ウィーン大学間文化哲学研究室客員研究員）。現在、NTTインターコミュニケーションセンター（ICC）にて新作「Painting folding 2.0」を発表、手製の織物絵画から「Alpha fold」の予測計算を介して現実に存在しうるタンパク質構造をデザインする試みを展開している。

Murayama expresses self-organized processes and patterns through paintings and drawings. 2010 shiseido art egg prize winner. 2015 Completed the doctoral program in oil painting (mural painting) at Tokyo University of the Arts. 2015-17: Artist-in-residence in Vienna as a Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs overseas training program for emerging artists (visiting researcher at the Intercultural Philosophy Laboratory, University of Vienna). Currently, he is presenting his new work “Painting folding 2.0” at NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC), in which he unfolds an attempt to design protein structures that could exist in reality through the predictive calculation of “Alpha fold” from handmade textile paintings.

Statement

絵画を学んだ村山悟郎（1983-）は、「いかに世界は創発するか？」という現代の生命科学論的な思索を、身体や行為をともなった芸術実践へと拡張するアーティストだ。有機的に織った麻布に線描を施した作品で活動を開始し、セルオートマトン・ドローイング、要素をカットアップし組み替えた画像や映像など、多様なメディアによる作品群は、いずれも再帰的なルールを設定した上で、進化・学習・自己組織化など生命的なプロセスやパターンを組み込んだものである。村山は、現代科学の認識論において重要な位置を占めるコンピュータ・シミュレーションを中心的モチーフとし、質料をともなった制作（ポイエーシス）へと展開してきた。近年では、AIによるバイオメオリクス（顔や歩容）の技術に着目し、機械が人間を検知するシステムをとおして、人間の知覚の在り方を逆照射する作品を発表してきた。近作では、科学者とのコラボレーションも重要な要素になっている。

Goro Murayama (1983-) is an artist who, based on his education in painting, engages with the question of “How does the world emerge?” in contemporary life science by expanding it to an artistic practice that involves the body and actions. He began his career with works that apply oil paints on organically woven linen which, along his body of work in a variety of media, including cellular automaton drawings, and cut up and recombined images and video, incorporate life-like processes and patterns, such as evolution, learning, and self-organization, by setting in place recursive rules to produce a work. Murayama has taken computer simulations, which occupy an important place in the epistemology of modern science, as a central motif, and developed it into a “poiesis” with mass. In recent years, he has turned his attention to AI-based biometrics (face and gait) technology and has created works that illuminate the nature of human perception in reverse as it were, through systems that allow machines to detect humans. In recent works, collaborations with scientists have become an important element too.
