大塚朝子 Asako Otsuka

Profile

1984 兵庫県神戸市に生まれる。
京都市立芸術大学大学院彫刻科を修了後、自主企画展などを中心に活動を続ける。
現在京都市内在住。
子どものための絵画・工作教室「子どもアトリエかわばた」主宰。
京都市立芸術大学彫刻科非常勤講師。

2008 Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, Major in Sculpture.
She currently lives in Kyoto.
She hosts “Children’s Atelier Kawabata”, a painting and crafting class for children. Also a part-time lecturer at the Department of Sculpture, Kyoto City University of Arts.

Statement

友達との長いおしゃべり、いつもの散歩道で見た光景、そのような他愛もない日々の出来事が記憶される仕組みについて、興味があります。
古い伝記や外国の小説を読むとその時代、その国の暮らしや思考を追体験できるように、未来の人たちはどんなふうに感じてどんな方法で伝えようとするだろうか？

I want to understand how small details of everyday life are remembered, such as a long chat with a friend, or a scene I saw on my usual walk.
How will people of the future feel and how will they try to convey things, in the way we trace the lives and ideas of particular eras and countries through reading old memoirs and foreign novels?

大塚の彫刻作品たちは、もともとの重量や素材を離れて自由を得る。どの作品も不思議な距離感とユーモアをもって、人の身体と何らかの関係を結ぼうとしている。侵食や制圧による変化ではなく、あくまで対話によって、少しずつ、緩やかに、時には唐突に。だからこそ見たこともない新鮮な違和も生まれていく。関係の世界をどのように変化させるのか楽しみである。

Otsuka’s sculptures gain freedom by leaving their original mass and material. All of her work tries to form some kind of relationship with the human body, with a strange perspective of distance and humour. Not a change by violation or suppression, but by means of conversation, little by little, slowly, and at times suddenly. This is why new oddities never seen before can occur. I look forward to how she will change the world of relationships.
