mtk+ is a project held by MtK Contemporary Art to introduce and support young artists, along with the invigoration of the art scene in Kyoto.
For the exhibition vol.6, we will introduce Mizuki Ashikawa who uses lithography to connect banal fragments of daily life in attempt to expose new sceneries, and Yohta Matsuoka who explores the question of whether motifs can be something different from their real appearance, depending on how they are arranged.

Mizuki Ashikawa

Born in Shizuoka, 1994. Currently enrolled in the doctoral program for Studies in Production of Art, Graduate School of Art and Design, Musashino Art University. Awards include Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi 2019, AATM2019 Mitsubishi Estate Award, and selected for Shell Art Award 2018. Main exhibitions include Statements from Galleries––Focusing on a new generation 2021, Gallery Natsuka, Tokyo, and ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2020, The Museum of Art Kyoto Annex, Kyoto. The realities and the own perspectives on matters faced while wandering around are drawn and arranged accordingly on a flat surface of a lithograph.

Yohta Matsuoka

Born in Gunma, 1978. Graduated the Department of Graphic Design, Tama Art University. Since 2004, Yohta has been producing artwork referring to the street culture scene through live painting. Murals painted on walls in various countries including Japan are characterized by dynamicity and flexibility. Recent paintings are created by following the instincts when placing objects on a monochrome screen. Main exhibitions include Before Dawn, sort-one, Tokyo, 2022, and ENCOUNTER, iwataya, Fukuoka.
