Statement

慣習化された何気ない行動やありふれた事象、日常的に用いる言葉に感じる「可笑しさ」を、映像や造形物を用いて独自に追及しています。日本語でいう「可笑しさ」の中には、滑稽(funny)、興味深さ(interesting)、等、さまざまな要素を含んでいます。例えば、食材やその調理法や作法のような、ひとつのテーマにおいて、その歴史的・文化的背景を探りながら分解し、自身の身体や物を使って再構築を繰り返すことを通して、そこに内包され得る不可視の「可笑しさ」を表出させることを試みています

I have been conducting my own exploration on “Okashisa” which can be found in our unintentional behaviour, usual occurrences and words we use on a daily basis. The Japanese word “Okashisa” has different meanings such as funny, interesting, and absurd. Like finding a suitable method and manner of cooking for a certain ingredient, I deconstruct a theme by exploring its historical and cultural context, and reconstruct it using my own body as a medium. By doing this, I attempt to reveal
the concealed “Okashisa” which is possibly embodied within the chosen theme.

恣意的に選ばれた事物や事象は、意味や分類が解体、再構築され、不条理にも映る姿は、ある種の笑いを誘う。倉知は、“可笑しさ”を足掛かりに儀式とも思える手法で社会にアクセスし、自身の身体とカメラを媒介に、それらを独自の所作で体系化してゆく。アナロジーやホモロジー、コラージュやモンタージュ、リサーチやワークショップ、大衆文化やSNSなど、様々な実践的接続方法で世界と自身との接点を手探る姿は、真理を希求する先史時代人の姿にも、対話（あるいは独白）を渇望する現代人の姿にも映る。

The erratically chosen objects and phenomena, with their meaning and classification dismantled and reconstructed, appear to be even absurd and lures a certain kind of laughter. Through “okashisa” (=funniness), Kurachi uses ritual-like methods to access society, and with his own body and camera as a medium, he systematizes these in a unique manner. Analogy and homology, collage and montage, research and workshop, popular culture and SNS; the way he searches for his point of contact with the world through various practical methods of connection, seems both like the prehistoric human pursuing truth, and the modern human longing for dialogue (or perhaps a monologue).
