鳥居本顕史 Takafumi Toriimoto

Profile

1985年大阪生まれ。京都精華大学芸術研究科博士前期課程版画コース修了。京都市立芸術大学大学院博士後期課程版画領域満期退学。
表面の分割操作をコンセプトに、シルクスクリーン製版や型取りなどの複製技術を用いて作品を制作。
シルクスクリーン制作工房「京都孔版」代表。刷り師としても活動する。

Born in Osaka in 1985. Completed the Master’s Course in Printmaking at Kyoto Seika University. Withdrew at the end of the doctoral course in printmaking at Kyoto City University of Arts.
Toriimoto creates works based on surface division and manipulation using reproduction techniques such as silkscreen plate making and mold making. Representative of the silk screen production studio “Kyotokohan”. Also active as a Printer.

Statement

近作では、割る、破く、裂く、剥がすなどの方法で形を作ることを試みています。
2つ以上に分割することで、平常では外から見えないものが断面という形で表面に現れ、そしていつの間にかそれが”本物の”表面となることもあります。
私はこの断面を、ある役柄に扮する舞台俳優（あるいは舞台美術）のようなものと捉えており、「演じる」ということもまた、事物を二重にする一種の分割操作であると考えています。

In my recent works, I have attempted to create forms by splitting, tearing, ripping and peeling. By splitting into two or more parts, what is normally invisible from the outside appears on the surface in the form of cross-sections, which in time can become the “real” surface.
For me, this cross-section can be seen as a stage actor (or stage art) playing a certain role, and “acting” can also be said to be a kind of division operation that makes things double.

版画領域で長年作品研究を進めてきている鳥居本は、いわゆる孔版印刷による平面絵画という版画の概念から大きく逸脱したダイナミズムをもつ作品の独自性で知られている。版を起こす行為を物質を「割り」「裂き」「剥がした」断面の凹凸関係に繋げ、オブジェ的展開のインスタレーションによる空間表現は複製行為の芸術的解釈を根本から問いただす挑発的作品となっている。

With a long background in studying production in printmaking, Toriimoto is known for his work which has a unique dynamism that deviates greatly from the typical two-dimensional picture associated with mimeograph printing. By connecting the action of preparing the plate to the uneven surfaces of broken, torn and ripped material, and creating a spatial expression through installations similar to the use of objects, his challenging work questions the root of artistic interpretations of duplication.
