Statement

感覚(触覚や意識)について、つくることで実践し、理解したいと考えています。
作品にはいつも、自分を超える抽象度を持つこと、行為だけでなくそこから派生していくことを求めています。それらを決める要因や、人の想像力が高まることはどういうことなのかを制作の中で思考していきたいです。

I want to practice and understand the senses (touch and consciousness) through production. I always want my work to be more abstract than myself, not just the action, but also to bring derivation from it. Through production, I try to think about the factors that determine this, and what it means to increase people’s imagination.

竹林玲香は“描くこと”それ自体を描く。子供が目的を決めず歩き出し、自分なりのルールで未知なる世界を求める冒険のように描かれる。何を描くかではなく、描くことそのものに惹かれ、そのプロセスにおいて生まれる感覚を一つずつ繋げてゆく。そうして生まれた地図は、蠢くように起伏に富んだ豊かな地形を描く。その地図を目の前に私たちは、彼女が辿ったのとは異なる新たな道を発見する。

Reika Takebayashi depicts the “act of depicting” itself. She paints like how a child walks with no goal, and like an adventure searching for an unknown world under her own rules. She is drawn to the action of painting, rather than what to paint, and connects each of the sensations that emerge during the process. The map that is created, shows a vast landscape full of floundering ups and downs. We discover a new route, different to the one that she followed, with this map in front of us.
