1972年大阪府生まれ。ベルリン在住。
生と死という人間の根源的な問題に向き合い、「生きることとは何か」、「存在とは何か」を探求しつつ、その場所やものに宿る記憶といった不在の中の存在感を糸で紡ぐ大規模なインスタレーションを中心に、立体、写真、映像など多様な手法を用いた作品を制作。 2015年、第56回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際美術展の日本館代表として選出される。主な個展に、森美術館（19年）、南オーストラリア美術館（18年）、ヨークシャー彫刻公園（18年）、高知県立美術館（13年）、丸亀市猪熊弦一郎 現代美術館（12年）、国立国際美術館（08年）など。 また、ホノルル・ビエンナーレ（19年）、奥能登国際芸術祭（17年）、シドニービエンナーレ（16年）などの国際展にも多数参加。
Born in 1972, Osaka. Lives and works in Berlin. Confronting the fundamental human concerns, life and death, Shiota explores what life is, and what existence is, to create large-scale thread installations as well as sculpture, photography and video, expressing the existences within absences such as the memories that dwell in a location.
In 2015, she represented Japan at the 56th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition. Solo exhibitions have been held at the Mori Art Museum (2019),Art Gallery of South Australia (2018), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2018), Museum of Art, Kochi (2013), Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art (2012) and National Museum of Art, Osaka (2008). She has also participated in many international exhibitions including the Honolulu Biennial (2019), Oku-Noto Trinnale (2017), Biennale of Sydney (2016).
