Artist studios can be found in many shapes in Kyoto; an abandoned brewery in Fushimi, a 25m tall former textiles plant in Nishijin, or a local factory lined with machine tools. The days spent during production, under the agony of confronting the outcome and repeating experiments for the ideal expression, could be called the 'back' side that cannot be seen. Of course the back, has an unbreakable connection to the artwork, the front. connecting two sides, attempts to connect the front and back of the three artists, Kazuaki Kikuchi, TŌBOE (Akane Saijo x Valentin Gabelier) and Momoko Yoshida, through the exhibition and using visual media.

Kazuaki Kikuchi

Born in Kyoto, 1993. Graduate of the Contemporary Art Course, Fine Arts Department, Seian University of Art and Design; Concept and Media Planning, Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. Kikuchi is an artist based in Kyoto, who also works as a machinist. He uses methods adapted from his job to create apparatus that operate upon the heavy use of the body, and then uses the apparatus to create images cited from art history. Main exhibitions include New Mutation #3 Kazuaki Kikuchi, Gaku Kurokawa, Anri Yanase, Kyoto Art Center (2020), Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 2020, the Museum of Kyoto (2020, runner-up), and Extreme Violence, Yamashita Bldg. (2019).

TŌBOE (Akane Saijo x Valentin Gabelier)

TŌBOE is a unit formed by Akane Saijo, an artist who focuses on the fictionality that emerges from the characteristic of ceramics of being empty inside, and Valentin Gabelier, who uses his own voice and breath in performances. The two create audio objects made of ceramics, incorporating each other's subjects, ceramics, breath and voice. Akane Saijo - Born in Hyogo, 1989. Completed her Master's course in Ceramics at the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. Valentin Gabelier - Born in Grasse, France, 1991. Currently enrolled in his Doctor's course in Media Art at the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts.

Momoko Yoshida

Born in Hyogo, 1989. Received her Master's diploma from the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts in 2016. Yoshida encapsulates the senses of euphoria and images that come to mind when listening to music into paintings, and treats them as instruments to share the euphoria with the viewers. Awards include the Mitsubishi Estate Award at the a.a.t.m. 2016, and the Mayor Award at the Graduate School of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts in 2016. Past solo exhibitions include scene UKH ver.3.1, Art Zone, Kyoto (2017), and scene UKH ver.3, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo (2017).
