Statement

近年は、以前から制作していた抽象画と具象画の中間になるような表現の追及に取り組んでいます。

In recent years, I have been working on pursuing an expression that is in between the abstract paintings and figurative paintings that I have been making from before.

岡本の作品には、線を主としたドローイングに近いイメージや霞がかった色彩による抽象的な絵、そしてそれらが融合したものなど、いくつもの形式が混在している。そしてそれらには共通して“ノリ”とも呼べるような軽さがある。否定的にも響くかもしれないこの軽さこそが彼に独自性を与えている。このノリや軽さで飛び越えられた「具象と抽象」という重く古くなりがちなテーマに新たな展開をもたらしてくれることに期待している。

Many styles co-exist in Okamoto’s artwork, such as line-heavy images similar to drawings, abstract paintings composed of foggy colours, and things that are mixtures of these. In each of these is a common lightness one could call a “vibe”. This lightness that may ring negatively is what gives him originality. I anticipate he brings a new page to the theme of figurative and abstract, jumping over what can often become heavy and stale, with this vibe and lightness.
