An exhibition by Kyoto-based artist Saki Matsumura will be held at y gion. The title combines the sounds of the conjugations of the verb to see (see, saw, seen) with the words, see, sew and scene.When following the white lines characteristic to Matsumura's works, we can understand that they exist as if to sew together the complex pictorial space, connecting the different elements together. This is also linked to the characteristic of y gion, being a multi-tenant building with various businesses coexisting.

Saki Matsumura

Born in Nagano, 1993. Matsumura completed her Master's course in Painting at the Graduate School of Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2017. Currently based in the Kansai area and resides in Kyoto. Recently her works have been installed in offices and has been receiving commissioned works. Matsumura explores the visualization of abstract ideas with her artwork, that have a material quality with complex layers of acrylic paints and silkscreen. The expressions that may confuse land for symbol, and the matière of which the texture has been emphasised with sprays, create a misconception between reality and the person viewing it.
