Statement

From my memories of growing up in a commuter town of Tokyo, and the embodiment of color blindness, I select low-entropy spaces or mundane mass-produced motifs, colors and qualities of the urban life to depict.
My theme is to perceive a new world by discovering meanings and rereading the rules, products and cities created for the majority.
I’m particularly interested in private spaces in cities.

Testimonial

Kurosaka runs the artists’ space Yotsuya Unconfirmed Studio, as well as being a painter himself.
He is a painter with high hopes for the future with the 2019 Shell Art Award.
Kurosaka has colour blindness, and is always making decisions wavering between “what looks beautiful to me (Kurosaka), and what typically looks beautiful”. He says that he wants to keep an accurate record, as one who lives in a “world lacking of normal” beauty and abundance. Kurosaka’s paintings revisit the uncertain perspectives towards the world through familiar ‘locations and objects’, and sublimate them to a different dimension, with his unique sense of colours. They are presented to us, as a window leading to another world.
