1997年大阪府生まれ。2020年度武蔵野美術大学油絵学科油絵専攻卒業。同年、京都芸術大学修士課程美術工芸領域油画専攻入学。受賞歴に2019年「学生選抜展」奨励賞、「FACE展」入選。個展に2020年ギャラリー美の舎(東京)。モチーフに捉われない自由なペインティングを制作する。
Born in Osaka, 1997. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Oil Painting Course in 2020. In the same year, Yamada enrolled in the master’s program at Kyoto University of Arts. Awards include the Encouragement Award at the “Student Selection Exhibition” (Tokyo) and Selection at the “FACE Exhibition” (Tokyo) in 2019. Solo exhibitions include Gallery Binosha (Tokyo), 2020. Yamada creates free paintings that are not restricted by motifs.

Statement
私は絵を描く時に、オイルを画面にたっぷりと垂らしてから筆を動かし始める。四角い画面の中で固まらないように常に混ぜる。そうすることで、絵の具が滲み、垂れ、混ざることで、形になるものとならないものの行き来を画面の中で行っている。表面をなぞるのではなく、大切な記憶と形状を取り戻すために。
When I paint, I drop a lot of oil on the screen before I start moving the brush. I continue mixing on the square screen so the paint does not solidify. By doing so, the paint bleeds, drips, and mixes, and the things that come into shape and those that do not, go back and forth on the screen. This is not to trace the surface, but to regain important memories and shapes.

Kohei Yamada says that his paintings start to solidify the moment he starts to paint; he quickly moves the brush from point to point inside the square screen, and mixes the oil paints yet to dry on the canvas. His physicality is transferred to the screen, and a unique pictorial space with gravity and points of balance is born. He maintains his level of abstractness and quality no matter the size of the work, and I look forward to his future deployments.
