小嶋晶 Aki Kojima

大阪生まれ。看護師として手術室や集中治療室で働いた後、芸術活動を始める。
2019年京都市立芸術大学大学院 美術研究科 絵画専攻 油画 修了。
受賞歴に「第23回岡本太郎現代芸術賞展」入選、「Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 2020-京都府新鋭選抜展-」最優秀賞、「アートアワードトーキョー丸の内2019」グランプリ、「京都市立芸術大学作品展」大学院市長賞。
生涯制作活動を通じてアニマを探究する事を目的とし、ここ数年は多様なメディアを用いて生についてをテーマに制作を続けている。
Born in Osaka. Started her artistic career after working in the operating room and intensive care unit as a nurse.
Graduated from the oil painting department of Kyoto City University of Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts in 2019.
Awards include selection at the 23rd Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Award Exhibition, Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 2020 Grand Prize, Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi 2019 Grand Prix, and the Kyoto City University of Arts Exhibition Graduates Mayor Award.
In the past few years, Kojima has been producing artwork using various media under the theme of life, for the purpose of exploring anima through life-long production activities.

Statement
私は約10年手術室や集中治療室で看護師として働き、絶えず人間の生死に関わってきました。
そうした経験から生まれたアニマについての関心が創作の根源的意欲となっています。
私にとって芸術活動は物事を捉えるための手段であり、フィードバックを得るための共有ツールでもあります。
アニマという人智の及ばない対象を捉える為、関連するテーマを掬い上げ、その周辺を多角的になぞることで輪郭に触れようとしています。
I worked as a nurse in the operating room and intensive care unit for about 10 years, and have been constantly involved in human life and death.
My interest in anima was born from such experiences, and has become my fundamental motivation for creation.
Artistic activities are my means to understand things, and are a sharing tool to acquire feedback.
To capture the anima, which is beyond the reach of human wisdom, I scoop up relating themes and trace their surroundings from multiple directions, to try to come into touch with the outline.

小嶋さんの作品はアニマ（animaラテン語で生、魂の意）についての興味、関心事が制作の根源的意欲となっている。表現としては絵画、映像、立体作品、インタビュー動画などを組み合わせたインスタレーションとして提示している。
「生」をいろいろな切り口から捉えようとする試みに新鮮さが有り、作者の意図が強く感じられる作品だと言える。「自分になる Be me」作品では社会的マイノリティーとされる人たちへのインタビューが中心となっており、自分になる為の生々しい言葉が引き出されており、「生」について考えさせる強い作品になっている。今後の発展が大いに期待できる作家として推薦する。

The source motivation of Kojima’s work, is her curiosity and interest in anima (meaning life or soul in Latin). She presents installations combining paintings, video, sculptures, and interviews as her expression.
Her experiments to grasp life from various angles is refreshing, and there is a strong sense of the artist’s purpose in her work. “Be me” is based on interviews with people of social minorities; vulnerable words to be oneself are spoken, and it is a powerful installation that makes us think about life. I recommend her as an artist with great expectations in her future development.
