STATEMENT
木の持つ独特の色・形・模様の面白さが近頃ようやく少しずつ感じられるようになってきました。
これまで私は木という素材と、自分が木を造形することとの結びつきが曖昧であることを造形の軸に据えて制作してきました。素材とそれに手を加える意識は本来結びつくはずのない二つのものであり、しかしそれらが奇しくも合わさることで造形は成りたっているのだと仮定することで造形の不思議を感じていました。
近頃、私は自分の造形を木や自然のなかにある「かたち」を表現するために用いることに面白みを感じます。かたちづくることをもっと素材としての木に、そして木が背負っている自然そのものに近づけていきたいと思うようになってきたのです。木、つまり自然にかたちが近づいていくような造形とはいったいどのようなものなのでしょうか？自然の「再現」でも「似姿」でもなく、木－自然のなかにあるなにか生きているかたちを造形としてつくることは可能なのか？
それは私にも分かりませんが、いま私は木の色や形・模様を使ってそのようなものをつくってみたいのです。
Lately, I have finally started to discern the beauty of the distinctive colours, shapes, and textures of wood.
The ambiguous tie between wood as a material, and the process of shaping wood, used to be the centre of my production. A material and the notion of adding change to it, are essentially unassociated with each other. I would feel mystery in the process of shaping, by hypothesising that shaping can take place, because these two are put together.
My recent interests are in using my work to express the shapes that lie inside wood and nature. I have started to think that I want to make the process of shaping, closer to the wood as a material, and closer to the nature that lies behind wood. What exactly would a piece of work, close to the shape of nature and wood, be like? Is it possible to create a shape, alive like wood and nature, that is not a replication or pseudo nature?
Although I do not have the answers, that is what I wish to create using the colours, shapes and texture of wood.

矢野洋輔の作品はその形が具象でも抽象の場合でも同じように、木が成長とは違う、例えば石のように長い時間をかけて変形をしたように感じられます。結果それらは粘土で瞬時に感覚的に作ってできたような形にも見えます。物質とイメージが旅をしているような感覚はとても新しく感じられます。

Yosuke Yano’s works, whether figurative or abstract, feel as if the wood has transformed, not in terms of growth, but like how a stone does under a long period of time. As a result, they may seem to be like a shape created intuitively on the spot from clay. The feeling as if material and image are travelling together is a very new one.
