STATEMENT
今西はキャンバスに油絵具を塗り重ね、筆致の跡を力強く残しながら削っていく行為を繰り返し描いていきます。
近距離から観る素材のもつディテールから一変、作品から遠く離れた時に観えてくるイメージは花火や朽ちた建物、墜落した飛行機など退廃や終わりを連想させるイメージを描いています。しかし一方ではそれは再生や新たな始まりを想起させ、生と死が常に表裏一体の関係であることを考えさせるます。素材とイメージ、視点と距離との関係性を探りながら私たちが共通認識している事柄のあいまいさ不確かさを提示します。
Shinya Imanishi creates his paintings by skillfully overlaying layers of oil paints, and repeatedly scraping them off while leaving the traces of the brush strokes. While the details of the materials come to the fore when looking at the m at close range, images of degeneration and demise such as a crashed airplane or a fallen camellia emerge into view once the viewer takes some distance. At the same time, these images also evoke themes of regeneration and new beginnings, and express the fact that life and death are always inextricably linked together. They present the ambiguity and uncertainty of the facts and events about which we share a common understanding, while exploring the relationship between material and image, as well as between viewpoint and distance.

今西真也は大学院修了展で積層する分厚い絵の具の層を削り取るという作品によって、絵画に彫刻的身体を取り込む事に成功した。また遠望すれば彼の絵画はサンドストームや新聞画像のモアレのような防爆とした幻視を我々にもたらし、不透明な時代に生きるという事実を否応なく我々に突きつけて来る。先般開催された日動コンテンポラリーアートの個展は、新しい挑戦もあり大きな成功を勝ち得て作品もほぼ完売するという快挙を果たした。

Shinya Imanishi succeeded in incorporating a sculpture-like body into his paintings for the Degree Show, by scraping off laminated, thick layers of paint. From a distant view, his paintings show us an obscure hallucination like a sand storm or the moiré of a newspaper graphic, and confront us with the fact that we live in an uncertain time. He showed a great success with a new challenge at his recently held solo exhibition at the nichido contemporary art, where his works were near sold out.
