澤田知子 / Tomoko Sawada
PROFILE
1977年神戸市生まれ。成安造形大学写真クラス研究生を修了、現在は同大学客員教授であり関西学院大学の非常勤講師も勤める。
学生の頃よりセルフポートレイトの手法を使い作品を通して内面と外見の関係性をテーマに作品を展開している。デビュー作「ID400」にて2000年度キヤノン写真新世紀特別賞、2004年に木村伊兵衛写真賞、NY国際写真センターThe Twentieth Annual ICP Infinity Award for Young Photographerなど受賞。ニューヨーク、ロサンジェルス、ベルギー、パリ、ウィーンなど世界中で展覧会を開催。出版物は、写真集の他に絵本などもある。
Born in 1977, Kobe. After finishing her degree in Photography at Seian University of Art and Design, she currently serves as visiting professor at the same university, and as part-time lecturer at Kwansei Gakuin University.
From during her studies, her works explore the relationship between the inside and outside through self-portraits. She was awarded the Canon New Cosmos of Photograph 2000, Kimura Ihei Memorial Photography Award and the International Center of Photography (New York) Infinity Award for Young Photographers in 204 for her debut work “ID400”. She has held exhibitions all over the world, including in New York, Los Angeles, Belgium, Paris and Venice. Publications include picture books as well as photograph albums.
STATEMENT
キムさんは在日韓国人の３世という立場から、自分は何者かであり、同時に何者でもないというアイデンティティについて模索していますが、よくあるドキュメンタリーではなくファンタジー性を持っています。作家いわく写真を使って自分と世界との繋がりを確認しているそうですが、真摯に取り組まれしっかりと作り込まれた強くて美しいイメージに、見る側が自身のストーリーを重ねることができることから、見る人によって作品との関係が興味深く変化する面白い作品を制作している作家です。

Kim explores her identity of being somebody and nobody at the same time, as a third generation Korean resident in Japan, but rather than the often-used documentary, she prefers a fantastic touch. The artist says that she is confirming her connection to the world through photographs, but she is also an artist who creates interesting art that changes its relationship depending on it’s viewer, as the viewer can identify their own story with the strong and beautiful images created tightly with sincerity.
