Born in 1975. Currently based in Kyoto. He graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1998 with a B.F.A in Sculpture, followed by an M.F.A. in sculpture in 2000, and a Ph.D. in Fine Art Sculpture in 2003. He establishes “SANDWICH”, a creative platform for production in 2009. In 2011, his solo exhibition “KOHEI NAWA – SYNTHESIS” took place at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. He explores the potentiality of sculpture, working with beads, polyurethane foam, silicone oil, and a wide range of other technologies and materials, through his original concept “PixCell”. Nawa’s recent projects extend this exploration to architecture and performance, to create both space and art.

Takuro Tamura uniquely expresses the antitheses of society and systems with his abundant ideas and images, such as the mouse and crown, pigeons wearing platform shoes, the black goat and post box, salmon and wooden pooh-bear. I hope that he will continue to instinctively perform his provocative and audacious expressions that cleverly incorporate the environment and context. He also has an interesting background of experiencing two years as a hairdresser in New York and London before entering art university.

Shun Kimura has an intense originality, perspective, and strange imagination that also makes him somewhat destructive. His continuous pursuit for the human image stays consistent over the years. His diary-like stock of drawings, full of human nature, desire, insanity, contradiction, sorrow and ludicrousness, show the depth of their darkness and his sharp outlook on society. However, when these transform into a sculpture, a uniform easy-going quality appears over the entire piece, making even a serious subject, somewhat unique and laughter inducing. This is what makes Shun Kimura what he is.

Mitsuru Furuta bases his production on the relationship between the mind and body of modern people. The bodies that he expresses are not the sublime and beautiful bodies like those that sculptors such as Michelangelo and Rodin aimed for. His series of sculptures that envelop the surface of motifs such as motorbikes and video game controllers with a wrinkly leather, express the fundamental anxiety, obsession, and instinctive discomfort towards others, that exist inside people.
