「ワールドおさがりセンター」
この建物の中にある物は誰でも自由に持ち帰ることができる
この建物の中には誰でも自由におさがりを置くことができる
この場所で最後まで貰い手が付かなかった物を素材に仮面を作った
仮面を売り、今年度の「ワールドおさがりセンター」運営資金とする
“Ｗorld Osagari Center”
Anything in this building can be taken home by anyone.
Inside this building,anyone can leave a gift.
I made a mask from the things that remained to the end.
I sold the mask to finance the “World Osagari Center” this year.
“Osagari” means free second hand goods in Japanese.

酒井貴史は学生時代に「物々交換所」という作品を考案する。これは誰でも参加可能なインタラクティブな作品で、大学構内に設けられた「物々交換所」のルールはいたってシンプルだ。《誰でも不要になったものを置いて良い。欲しい物がある場合は誰でも持って行って良い。》これだけである。酒井はその物々交換所を通じ、物の価値について考察してゆく。そして酒井はいつまでも貰い手がつかなかった物を集めて作品化したり、「鑑賞者の寿命と物々交換をする」というパフォーナンスなどを行い、現行の価値に揺さぶりをかける。そして彼のすごいところは、自身の生活用品の殆どを物々交換したものや拾ったもを使用しているという徹底ぶりだ。現代の過度な消費社会への問題提起を体を張ってコミカルに提示してくれる彼の作品は、「消費」や「価値」とは何かを考えるきっかけを与えてくれる。

During his student years Takafumi Sakai presented the idea of a “Barter Trade Shop”. It is an interactive piece in which anyone could participate; the rules of the “Barter Trade Shop” located inside his university were extremely simple. “Anyone may leave unneeded items. Anyone may take an item if they they wish”, that was it. Sakai studies the value of objects through this barter trade shop. He sometimes gathers items that are never claimed to create a piece of artwork, and sometimes does performances trading for part of the viewers’ life, stirring current values. What is so special about him, is his thoroughness in that nearly all the items he uses in his life are covered by things he has either traded or picked up. He gives us an opportunity to think about what consumption and value means, risking himself through his comical confrontation towards this excessive consumer society.
