STATEMENT

絵画と現実が繋がる境界、虚構と現実が混在した場所、不透明で秘密めいたもの、画像と物質性の相互関係を探っている。

I am exploring the boundary between painting and reality; the place where fiction and reality exist together, the things that are opaque and mysterious, and the relationship between image and materiality.

TESTIMONIAL

西太志君の作品は一言で言えば、モノクロで描かれた冒険少年の夢の様な探検を、物語風に描いた絵画作品です。ゴヤに影響されたと言う「黒い絵画表現」を通して、自身の現実の状況を切り取り、夢の物語との距離を深く考えようとしている意識が感じられます。
近年、「アートアワードトーキョー」グランプリ受賞や「シェル美術賞」入選など評価も高まって来ており、今後の活躍が大いに期待できる若手作家です。

Taishi Nishi’s works are narrative paintings that depict in monochrome the fairytale expeditions of an adventure boy. In his black paintings, inspired by Francisco Goya, lies his conscience in attempting to confront the distance of fairytales by clipping out situations from his reality. He is recently gaining appraisal, being awarded the Grand Prix at art award tokyo marunouchi, and being selected for the Shell Art Award; a young artist with much future to expect from.
