STATEMENT
“分かる”ということは一体どういうことなのか、を探るため制作をしています。
「今まで知っていると思い込んでいたものは一体何だったのか？」自分の制作を通して、そう問いかけています。
My works are a process to explore what it means to understand.
I question through my work: what exactly are the things that we had thought we knew up until now?

まるで図面でも描くかのように３次元のものを２次元の世界へと人を導く堀川の絵。
「分かるということは一体どういうことなのか。目の前にあるもの、そのものの本来の姿を知りたくて制作をしている。」と堀川は言う。
私たちはものの名前を聞いて概念的にすぐに頭の中に形を浮かばせるが、実際のものとその形は違うのかもしれない。解釈と行為の差異を突き詰める彼女の絵は今年も人を魅了するだろう。 さらに飛躍した彼女の作品を見ていただきたい。

Horikawa’s drawings are like diagrams that lead people into a two-dimensional world from three-dimensional objects.
Horikawa states that “”my works are a process to explore what it means to understand. To know the reality of what is in front of my eyes””.
When we hear the name of an object, we instantly imagine its concept in our minds, but there is a possibility that the shape is different to the actual thing. Her drawings that question this gap between process and perception are sure to captivate people again this year. I hope that you see her further polished artwork.
