STATEMENT

人間という生き物として絵をつくっています。
いまのテーマは人間讃歌。
オールド・マスターたちへのリスペクトを込めて、彼らが遺してくれた絵を私が日本で再制作してます。

I create paintings as a human.
My recent theme is a hymn to the humans.
I recreate the paintings our old masters have left for us, with my respect towards them.

TESTIMONIAL

江戸中期に活躍した臨済宗の僧、仙厓義梵の代表作品に「◯△□」というものがある。これには、宗教融合説や、悟りの端的な現れ、宇宙の表象説など、解釈には諸説が存在し、その簡略化された抽象形態は、とても柔らかに私たちのイマジネーションに寄添う。　今日、私たちのインターネットを経由する情報への接触経験は、「リアリティ」という言葉の意味を大きく揺さぶる。それは、確固たる一つの存在を求めようとする現実から、個々に形成される心象の集積を互いに共有することにより把握される抽象的な現実世界への移行である。　飯田美穂の描く人物たちは、名画から引用されるが、その形態や表情は、最低限度に簡略化されている。その禅画のように端的な形態と筆触がつくり出すイメージは、個々の記憶が生成する現実感と重なり合い、記憶のレイヤーの隙間に存在する私たちの意識を軽やかにくすぐる。

There is a famous painting of a circle, triangle and square by Sengai Gibon, a monk of the Rinzai school from the mid-Edo period. There are various interpretations to this painting, such as syncretism, being an expression of enlightenment, or a symbolisation of the universe; its simplified and abstract form gently embraces our imagination. In recent days, our contact with information through the internet has greatly influenced the meaning of the word reality. There has been a shift from the reality of desiring one unwavering truth, to an abstract reality that is understood through sharing accumulations of individually perceived impressions. The figures depicted by Miho Iida are cited from famous paintings, however, their form and expressions are simplified to the minimal. The images created from her plain shapes and brushwork like that of Zen paintings, overlap the reality created from our individual memories, teasing the conscience that exists in the gaps between our layers of memories.
