STATEMENT

私は、突然だったり、頭のなかで気になるものがまざりあったりして出てきた絵を、直感的に描いています。

I intuitively depict the images in my mind, where things that I was thinking of become mixed together, or suddenly pop up.

谷垣華の描き出す像を見る多くの者は、あるノスタルジックな感覚を抱くかもしれない。しかしながらそれは、学校の教室や海辺といった我々の日常生活を素材にした背景とオーソドックスな衣服を身に付けていることによって惑わされているに過ぎない。実は、谷垣は聖なる画像を描いているのである。とはいえ、谷垣の聖画像は具体的な宗教を表すようなことはない。その画像はあらゆる人々の心に宿る神の姿なのである。谷垣は現代に甦った聖画像絵師なのかもしれない。

Many people may feel somewhat nostalgic looking at the images that Hana Tanigaki depicts. However, this is only a misdirection by the backgrounds such as school classrooms or the beach which may come from our daily lives, and orthodox clothing. What Tanigaki actually depicts is sacred paintings, although she does not indicate any specific religion. These images are the gods that live in the minds of all different types of people. Tanigaki is perhaps a reincarnation of a sacred artist into the present.
