TESTIMONIAL

Komiya states that “the fantasy that humans create is what makes paintings so attractive”. He constructs a fiction by focusing on the relationship between the spatial qualities of paintings and its surface.

He is an artist who pursues the uncertainty and vagueness of images an object possesses, and the gap of the reciprocal world of entity and imaginary.

“vanitas” is one of Komiya’s most famous pieces; at a glance it seems as if nothing is happening in the still life, however, parts of it is in fact spinning rapidly. It presents an unperceivable state that we cannot comprehend visually, surpassing the substance of the original still life; it formulates the gap between the idea of our perceived world and the primordial world. It is like a ghost that has possessed a body, and becomes a door that connects to a world that we cannot even see.

Jimba is a painter who interests himself in the sense of sight and touch.

In Jimba’s early paintings, he depicted senses inside the mouth. He currently portrays his surroundings, and selected symbolic objects which connect to himself.

Both originate in Jimba’s personal senses and surrounding objects, but they call upon our shared primitive human senses.

Jimba links the third person’s perspective and senses, and his own impressions and stories, to sight. The symbols linked and converted through seeing begin to float, luring the viewers senses from one dimension to another dimension, extending our senses of sight and touch. Symbols and meanings depicted on a two-dimensional material are released, exposing an incomplete universe.
